Appearancealbino [a/a, c/c]
Strain developmentThe original tenascin deficient mice with mixed genetic background was reported to develop normally without tenascin. To clarify the biological function of tenascin-C in vivo, several congenic strains with inbred background have been developed by Dr. Kusakabe M, Cell Biology Laboratory, Life Science Tsukuba Research Center, RIKEN since 1992.The tenascin-deficient congenic strains were thus developed by successive backcrossing into A, BALB/cA, C57BL/6N, C3H/HeN, and GRS/A.
Strain descriptionThis strain is useful to study the biological function of extracellular matrix tenascin-C in vivo, espacially in the field of tumor development, tumor metastasis, wound healing, tissue regeneration, angiogenesis, tissue interaction etc. Background strain, GRS/A have a high incidence of mammary tumours which are highly hormone-responsive in breeding females.
