Strain development |
The transgenic mouse with integration of 10 copies of a 15 kbp human DNA fragment containing the renin gene. The mice with high blood pressure can be produced by crossbreeding this mouse with the hAG transgenic mice. Angiotensinogen is a component of the renin-angiotensin system that regulates constriction of the blood vessel, and maintain high blood pressure. In this system, renin secreted by a kidney acts on angiotensinogen, and angiotensin I are produced. Furthermore, angiotensin I is converted into angiotensin II having strong vasoconstriction effect by the action of a converting enzyme which exists in a liver and each organ. |

Strain description |
Developed by Dr. Akiyoshi Fukamizu at University of Tsukuba in 1991. The transgenic mouse with integration of 10 copies of a 15 kbp human DNA fragment containing the renin gene. This strain was backcrossed to C57BL/6 for three times. |
