Strain development Developed by Dr. Hidemi Misawa at Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Neuroscience in 2003. The VaChT-Cre transgene was injected into the pronuclei of fertilized oocytes of C57BL/6 mice.  
Strain description The Cre-recombinase activity was detected specifically in a subset of cholinergic neurons in the somatomotor nuclei and medial habenular nucleus, but absent in visceromotor and other central and peripheral cholinergic neurons. The VaChT-Cre mice promote cre-mediated recombination with late onset.
