Strain development The JF1/Ms strain was derived from fancy mice purchased at a market in Denmark in 1987, and has been maintained at the National Institute of Genetics, Mishima, Japan. In 1993, it was established as inbred strain and was named JF1, Japanese Fancy mouse 1.  
Strain description Morphological and genetical analysis indicated that the JF1 mice originated from the Japanese wild mice, Mus musculus molossinus. The coat color of this strain is black spotted white coat with black eyes. The related genes are a/a B/B C/C D/D s/s.

Females are able to get pregnant after 3 months old.
