ES Cell line
Background strainC57BL/6NCrSlc
Appearanceblack [a/a B/B C/C +/+]
black with an aberrant pigmentation in the skin [a/a B/B C/C Tg/?]
Strain developmentDeveloped by Dr. Takahiro Kunisada at Gifu University school of medicine in 1998. The mouse ET3 cDNA fragment under the human keratin 14 promoter was injected into the pronuclei of B6D2F1 fertilized eggs. The transgenic mice were maintained by brother-sister mating after backcrossing to C57BL/6Cr mice for 20 generations.
Strain descriptionThese transgenic mice develop prominent epidermal pigmentation by overexpression of the mouse endothelin 3 gene controlled by the human keratin 14 promoter. The transgenic mice display a significant increase of the number of melanocytes, and increase thyroid tumorigenesis around 6 months old.
Colony maintenanceSibling Mating (Hemizygote x Hemizygote, wild-type)About 10% of Tg females has small body, and are hard to get pregnant.
