Appearance
Strain developmentDeveloped by Fumihiko Horio, Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University in 2004.
Strain descriptionThis strain carries diabetes-related loci from Chr 2 of A/J backcrossed to SM/J. This strain is thought to carry a causative gene of diabetes in the integration region originating from A/J on chromosome 18. This strain exhibits a clear diabetes phenotype, compared with a control strain. This SM.A-t2dm2sa strain was produced from SM.A-t2dm2saR2 congenic strain introduced the region between D2Mit42 to D2Mit102 of A/J onto the SM/J.
