Background strain
Appearance
Strain developmentDeveloped by Kuniya Abe, RIKEN BioResrouce Center in 2004. The transgene was injected into the pronuclei of B6D2F1 fertilized eggs. The mutant mice were crossed to C57BL/6 over N2 times.
Strain descriptionOct-4/RFP transgenic mice carry mRFP cDNA under the control of the 18kb Oct-4 genomic fragment (Genomic Oct-4 Fragment of 18) by deletion in the proximal enhancer (PE). The Oct-4 gene expresses in primordial germ cells and undifferentiated spermatogonia in new born mice. This strain is useful to isolate living primordial germ cells which specifically express red fluorescent protein at various stages of embryonic development.
Colony maintenanceCarrier x Noncarrier [C57BL/6JJcl]
