Strain development Developed by Dr. Masayuki Yamamoto at Tsukuba University in 2002. A cDNA fragment encording the constitutive active form of mouse AhR (AhR-CA) under the human cytokeratin 14 promoter was injected into the pronuclei of fertilized egges of B6D2F1. The 234 line mice were maintained by hemizygous female x B6D2F1 wild-type male mating.  
Strain description K14-AhR-CA transgenic mice carry a cDNA fragment encording the constitutive active form of mouse AhR (aryl hydrocarbon receptor) under control of human cytokeratin 14 promoter. The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) (dioxin receptor) is a transcription factor that mediate to catalyze xenobiotic Phase I metabolism. The transgene was integrated into the X chromosome in the Line 234. Tg hemizygous mice are normal at birth, but severe skin lesions with itching develop postnatally. Tg hemizygous males die before weaning. This strain is useful for the evaluation of the causal relationship between the AhR gene expression and inflammatory dermatitis.
